Women’s and Men’s basketball is so exciting at this year’s Summer Games! In today’s blog, Dr. Sami Khan combines his love of basketball and his expertise as a sports medicine physician at Resurgens Orthopaedics to share some tips to help keep basketball players out on the court.
Here are Dr. Khan’s Basketball tips to help you stay in the game:
- Basketball requires extensive stop and go and cutting maneuvers that can put the ligaments of the knee at risk for injury.
- Injury to the medial collateral ligament is most common following a blow to the outside of the knee.
- Treatment of injuries to the knee can often be treated with ice, bracing and gradual return to sports.
- Prevention of ligament injury can be achieved with an emphasis of proper footwork and mechanics when working on drills and play.
