Drs. Gary Stewart, Sourendra Raut, Phillip Walton and Deborah Kowalchuk gave back this holiday season

November 28, 2016 (Atlanta) — Drs. Gary Stewart, Sourendra Raut, Phillip Walton and Deborah Kowalchuk, orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeons at Resurgens Orthopaedics, continued the practice’s commitment to serving others by providing free foot exams and shoe fittings to homeless men in metro Atlanta at the Our Hearts to Your Soles event.

The Atlanta Union Mission hosted the 2016 Our Hearts to Your Soles event on Nov. 21. Each person served received a foot exam, a new pair of shoes, and a new pair of socks. The Atlanta Union Mission was established in 1938 and serves more than 1,000 homeless men, women and children every day.

Dr. Stewart began working with Our Hearts to Your Soles during his fellowship in Pittsburgh and said it is his favorite volunteering activity. He brought the event to Atlanta and with the help of other physicians at Resurgens, it has grown during the 10 years in which Resurgens Orthopaedics has participated.

“It is important to remember to give back, especially at this time of year,” Dr. Stewart said. “There is so much need in the world, and to some, a foot exam and new shoes can go a long way.”

Dr. Walton said it is a pleasure to serve those in need. 

“These events offer an opportunity to help those in need and serves to underscore the true meaning of the holiday season,” he said. “In the past, the people whom we have served have voiced their appreciation for our care along with a desire to remain engaged in their own foot care moving forward. I certainly look forward to participating in this and other events next year.”

Nationwide, dozens of Our Hearts to Your Soles sites exist. The program provides shoes to nearly 5,000 people each year.
